— ALEDO – Dr. George Pittman, 76, died Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2014, after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer.
George was born June 29, 1937, to George E. and Myrtis Pittman in Decatur, Ga. He received English degrees from Mississippi College and the University of Mississippi. He met his wife, Alicia, while at Mississippi College.
Dr. Pittman taught English at Ole Miss, Middle Tennessee State University and Howard Payne University. He returned to Mississippi College as chair of the English Department.
George and Alicia shared passions for travel and service, retiring to Aledo to be closer to family. As a volunteer, George served at First Baptist Aledo, the Center of Hope in Parker County and at the Doss Heritage and Culture Center.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Alicia J. Pittman; son, Greg Pittman and wife, Angie, of Round Rock; daughter, Patti Pittman Gough and husband, Norman, of Aledo; brother, Dr. Richard E. Pittman of Washington, D.C.; and grandchildren, Tori and Ali Pittman and Tara and Travis Gough.
