Aledo Ag Backers and Aledo FFA alumni will focus on “Raising the Future” Saturday, March 23, as they host their annual fish fry dinner, along with live and silent auctions, to benefit graduating seniors.

The event, to be held in the Philip Bradford Agricultural Science building on the Aledo High School campus, begins at 5:30 p.m. with fried catfish and sides — catered by R & K Cafe — and a silent auction.

The live auction, with auctioneer Ross Bandy, begins at 7 p.m.

There will also be drawings for gift certificates.

Melissa Thompson, president of Aledo Ag Backers, said auction items will include deer feeders from Bryant Grain, a carved wooden rocking horse from Russell Feed & Supply of Benbrook, a choice of container-grown trees — including delivery and planting — from Brazos River Trees, a pickup toolbox from Moritz Dealerships and a charcoal grill and certificate for steaks from Brookshire’s.

“There will be several things made by the kids,” Thompson said. “There have been grills and tables in years past, as well as baked goods.”

Thompson said 15 corporate tables have already been sold, almost double the number sold last year. She said the event raised between $15,000 and $20,000 last year.

“The money we raise goes to fund scholarships for graduating seniors,” Thompson said, “as well as to help offset the costs of the state and national FFA conventions and a leadership conference in Washington, D.C.

“We have already budgeted $10,000 for this year’s seniors, so unless someone specifies, the money raised at this event will go to next year’s seniors.”

Tickets are $10 each and may be purchased at the door. For more information, go to aledoagbackers.clubspaces.com or “like” Aledo Ag-Backers, the community page on Facebook.
