Texas high schools receive new UIL classifications, district alignments

Weatherford has familiar foes in new Conference 6A; Aledo moves up to 5A

Weatherford High School has a new University Interscholastic League classification for the 2014-16 period, but not much else changed for the Roos.

The UIL on Monday morning released its biennial football and basketball classification and district alignments. This time, essentially all schools moved up one classification to create the new Conference 6A classification, with schools playing six-man football now classified as Conference 1A schools.

The enrollment numbers used by the UIL to make the new classifications, divisions and district alignments were released in December.

WHS was placed in Conference 6A’s Region 1, District 4, with Arlington, Arlington Bowie, Arlington Houston, Arlington Lamar, Arlington Martin, Fort Worth Young Women’s Leadership (basketball only), Fort Worth Paschal and North Crowley.

Defending Class 4A, Division II, football champs Aledo High School will move up to Conference 5A, going into Region 1, District 8, with Burleson, Burleson Centennial, Cleburne, Crowley Everman, Granbury and Joshua.

In Conference 4A, one set of alignments for basketball and another for football were announced. In basketball, Springtown for 2014-15 was placed in Division I (large school), Region 1, District 8, with Bridgeport, Decatur, Lake Worth and River Oaks Castleberry. In football, Springtown was placed in Region 2, District 5, with Alvarado, Fort Worth Diamond Hill-Jarvis, Kennedale, Lake Worth and River Oaks Castleberry.

Brock High School will compete in 2014 for the first time as a full-fledged UIL football program. In football, Brock will compete in Conference 3A, Division I (large school), Region 1, District 4, with Bowie, Boyd, Breckenridge, Paradise and Ponder.

In basketball for the 2014-15 period, Brock, Millsap and Peaster were all placed in Conference 3A’s Region 2, District 11, with Glen Rose, Grandview, Hillsboro, Keene Smith and Rio Vista.

Poolville High School in basketball for 2014-15 will move up to Conference 2A and compete in Region 2, District 11, with Alvord, Chico, Collinsville, Era, Lindsay, Muenster and Valley View.

Texas high schools will new athletic districts under new boundaries to be released Monday by the University Interscholastic League.

The UIL realigns districts every two years based on enrollment figures, which can lead to shuffling of teams and a breakup of longtime district rivals.

Most schools already know where they will be because the UIL announced enrollment cutoff figures in December, but the final announcement can still bring a few surprises.

The districts take effect starting with the 2014 high school football season.
