Petitioners who asked that a local option be called to legalize mixed beverages in restaurants and wine and beer sales for off-premise consumption in Aledo have collected enough signatures to put the issue on the ballot May 10.

The final count for the petition was 256 valid signatures, according to the Parker County Elections Office, just 15 more than the number required, which is equal to 35 percent of the voters in the most recent gubernatorial election.

The elections office screened a total of 543 signatures, rejecting 287, more than they accepted. Many of the signers were ineligible because they lived outside Aledo city limits, according to Elections Administrator Robert Parten.
