Parker County Precinct No. 4 Commissioner Dusty Renfro, who filed for re-election in May while serving his first four-year term, has decided to step aside and support his right-hand man, Precinct No. 4 foreman Steve Dugan.
“He’ll be a great commissioner. He knows the precinct business forward and backward,” Renfro said. “He’s a Christian conservative, and I feel like I can support him.”
Renfro filed early for the post, then learned of Dugan’s decision after it was too late to withdraw his own submission.
“There’s a new state law that you have to withdraw within 24 hours of the sign-up deadline,” he said. “So my name will be on the ballot, but I’m supporting Dugan. This was never a career for me. I was volunteering to help.”
The new withdrawal deadline for the 2014 Primary and General Elections is the first day after the regular filing deadline, according to the Texas Secretary of State’s website.
Renfro, who believes in term limits, said he always expected to end his service after one or two terms. He will continue to work as a commercial real estate developer, a job he began in 2001.
“I’ve learned a lot; it’s been fun,” he said. “Now it’s time for someone else to serve.”
