The Aledo School Board will host two community meetings Thursday, March 28 — one at 2:45 p.m. and one at 6 p.m. — to give school staff, students and the public a chance to weigh in on the experience and skills needed by the district’s next superintendent to make him or her the best match for Aledo schools.
“Of all the meetings, with the exception of the hiring, this is probably the most important,” Board President Bobby Rigues told those attending the March school board meeting. “Very, very systematically, individuals from across the community will have an opportunity to provide input with regard to the type of superintendent that we wish to lead us into the future.
“Community involvement is vital as we formulate the characteristics and qualifications in our next superintendent.”
Superintendent Dan Manning is retiring for health reasons. His last day is June 28.
The consultant hired by the district to assist in the process, Texas Association of School Boards Executive Search Services, will facilitate discussion during the meetings, which will be held in the Central Administration Building. The building’s new secure access requires that visitors enter by the front (south-facing) doors.
Trustees are encouraging all members of the community to share their thoughts and insights, Rigues said. Those who cannot attend can visit the superintendent survey link on the district homepage (www.aledo.k12.tx.us).
In addition to the public meetings, the search firm will also conduct input sessions with district staff and students.
A tentative schedule for the selection process is as follows:
•Thursday, April 4: The board will meet to discuss the input from the March 28 meetings.
•Wednesday, April 17: Applications for the position close at midnight.
•Tuesday, April 23: The board will review applications in executive session.
•Monday, April 29 through Wednesday, May 1: The board will conduct interviews with approximately six top candidates.
•Monday, May 6: The board will meet in executive session to prepare for follow-up interviews.
•Monday May 13 through Wednesday, May 15: The board will conduct interviews with approximately three candidates.
•Tuesday, May 21: The board may visit the sites of the top one or two candidates.
•Wednesday, May 22: The board will vote for a lone finalist May 22.
•Thursday, June 13: The board will vote to hire the new superintendent.
