Aledo Middle School Band invited to elite Chicago festival

Staff Reports

The Midwest International Band and Orchestra Clinic has invited the Aledo Middle School band to perform at its annual December conference in Chicago.

AMS Band Director Ryan Johnstone said he was aware of only one other Texas middle school invited (Grisham Middle School in Round Rock ISD). In addition, this year’s clinic will feature bands from Columbia, Finland and Japan.

“Our Honor Winds band worked exceptionally hard to put together an incredible application (audition) that was worthy of this lofty recognition! This is a huge program distinction and honor,” Johnstone said.

“I know of several outstanding band programs that have submitted applications and recordings numerous times and have not received this coveted invitation to perform.”

The band students have put the community of Aledo and greater Fort Worth on the international musical map, according to Johnstone.

“I am extremely proud of their dedication and hard work,” he said, “and I wish to thank their parents, our school administration and school board for their amazing support of this project.”
