The 12th annual Ride for Heroes bike ride this Saturday in Aledo will include some VIPs: members of the United States Air Force Cycling Team.

More than 20 members of the USAF cycling team are expected to arrive in North Texas on Friday, the day before Saturday’s ride, according to RFH board chair Dennis Thompson. Some team members are coming from as far away as San Antonio.

The cyclists will meet with their sponsors, members of the Bush Legacy Republican Women’s Club of Weatherford, on the grounds of the historic Parker County Courthouse at 4:30 p.m. Friday for photos, then be their guests for a pre-ride dinner in Willow Park.

“We are very excited to have the team join us for Ride for Heroes this year,” Thompson said.

“The ride has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for organizations that are made up of our own local heroes. Having these military heroes with us this year is extra special to us and we are all looking forward to meeting the USAF team members.”

When members of the BLRWW learned that representatives of the Air Force team would be participating in the ride, they quickly offered to sponsor the team and raise the money to cover their fees.

“Our members are proud to support the men and women who give so selflessly to protect all of us through their service to our country,” Judy James, president of BLRWW, said.

“Our club members are eager to greet the USAF team members who are coming to Parker County to participate in this annual event that has meant so much to our communities in East Parker County.”

According to Master Sgt. Larry Gallo, executive director of the Air Force Cycling Team, team members are “honored to be joining in this event and looking forward to being with all of the riders in the Ride for Heroes”.

The event raises money to support local fire departments, Aledo school groups, the Parker County Sheriffs Reserve and other nonprofit organizations.

Ride for Heroes is this Saturday, April 19th. Registration fees are $35 for adults and $25 for ages 15 and under. Register online at www.rideforheroes.org or by mailing in a registration form found online.

Participants may also register the morning of the ride at the Daniel Ninth Grade Center on the Aledo High School Campus.
