WEATHERFORD — Parker County Democratic Women • The Parker County Texas Democratic Women will meet at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 17,  at the Switch restaurant, 112 S. FM 113, in Cool.

Quilter’s Guild of Parker County • On July 17, the Quilters Guild of Parker County will host Margie Peyton of Sew So Easy Quilt Shop in Saginaw. She began quilting as a child with her mother and learned that a quilt is a treasured thing and no scraps were wasted.

• The program will begin at 7 p.m., preceded by fellowship and a business meeting. A light refreshment will be served.

• Grace First Presbyterian Church is located at 606 Mockingbird Lane, Weatherford.

Food Preservation Workshop • The Texas AgriLife Extenstion Service will host a basic food preservation class. Making Salsas and Drying Fruits, Vegetables and Herbs will be held Friday, July 18.

• The class will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will cost $20. The registration will include recipes, canning supplies, ingredients and handouts. Participants should bring a sack lunch. The workshop will be held at the Parker County Agricultural Service Center located at 604 North Main Street, Weatherford.

• The workshop will cover the basics of making salsas and the principles of drying/dehydrating foods. Participants will have the opportunity to make several kinds of salsas and practice dehydrating foods.

• Those who have water bath canners and/or dehydrators are asked to bring them.

• This workshop is limited to 15 participants. Registration is requested by Wednesday, July 16, 2014 by calling 817-598-6168.

    The Weatherford fire marshal says a fire that damaged a house and killed two puppies Wednesday night is being investigated as a suspicious fire and a suspect is in jail on unrelated charges.

  • Richard Adams Sr. Firefighter arrested on child sex assault charges

    A volunteer Hudson Oaks firefighter is in the Parker County Jail on charges he repeatedly sexually assaulted two young relatives over a several year period. 

    Richard Frederick Adams Sr., 62, arrested Monday, faces two charges of continuous sexual abuse of a child under 14, a first-degree felony.

    ANNETTA —A controversial 34-home subdivision proposed for a 41-acre tract on Duncan Road will not go forward as planned, according to action taken by both the proposed developer and the Annetta Town Council after a public hearing Thursday night.

  • ESD 1, Annetta South close on fire station site

    Parker County Emergency Services District No. 1 and Annetta South officials said Tuesday that the ESD is homing in on a site for a new fire station to serve residents in the Annettas and surrounding areas. Annetta South is expected to consider a zoning change to accommodate a new station next month.

    Former Parker County Assistant Elections Administrator Laura Watkins, who sought, but was not appointed to the post of Parker County Elections Administrator after Robert Parten retired, last week began work as assistant elections administrator for Palo Pinto County, Palo Pinto County Elections Administrator Judith Evans has confirmed.
