First Baptist Church of Aledo has a new name, Church At The Crossing, thanks to a vote taken by the membership during a business meeting Feb. 9.
The initiative, supported by almost three-quarters of those who voted, is a change in name only, according to Pastor Lee Brewer.
“Nothing else about our church, our mission, our associations or how we operate is being changed by this proposed amendment,” Brewer underscored in an online message before the vote. “Our mission remains to make disciples and new followers of Christ.”
Brewer said the new name “removes barriers to those that have preconceived prejudices and hangups concerning “Baptist” churches and the Baptist Convention.”
Those preconceptions have prevented many from considering FBC as their church home, he said.
“The name change will allow us to better communicate with the name who we are,” he wrote. “It is a better representation of who we are.”
