Community Center rental discounts are now based on city residency rather than the purchase of an annual membership, according to recent rental policy changes approved by the Aledo City Council.
The changes discontinue the $50 yearly membership fee. Other revisions include increasing most rental fees by $5, raising the cancellation fee from $50 to $75, raising the cleaning fee for improper cleaning from $50 to $125 and requiring security/damage deposits from non-profits.
The changes also address non-profits and election officials that now use the facility free of charge, stating that the policy continues just for those that appear on the original list dating to when the Community Center was donated to the city.
Non-profits on the original list will be charged, however, if they add a new activity.
In the new fee schedule, non-residents who rent the large room in the center pay the most — $30 per hour, while new resident non-profits and government organizations which rent the small room pay the least — $10 per hour.
The biggest change is for new non-resident non-profits and organizations that rent the large room, which increased from $15 per hour to $25 per hour. The rental fee for kitchen use also increased $5 per rental, to $25.
City Secretary Deana McMullen told the council the revisions would generate an additional $500 to $1,000 for the city’s general fund, based on the current number of rentals per year.
