Aledo United Methodist Church will launch AmazinGrace, its 2013 5K — along with a Kid’s Fun Run — Sunday, Oct. 20, beginning at 4 p.m. at Bearcat Park in Aledo.
Participants pay $25 to register for the official chip-timed event and kiddoes pay $10 for the Fun Run, with T-shirts included in the price.
Dogs can run, too, for a $3 fee.
The race route heads south from the park on FM Road 5 W, then follows Cedar Bluff into residential roads on the east side. After looping back to FM 5 W the route again heads south, this time turning west on Autumnwood Drive. After heading north on Bluff View Drive, the route reverses direction and retraces its path to Bearcat Park.
AmazinGrace also includes live music and a cookout provided by A-Men, the men’s ministry group.
Proceeds pay for building supplies and trip expenses related to student mission work — both local and global, according to Clint Church, director of student ministries.
“We took three [trips] last year,” he said. “Our high schoolers worked with Alabama Rural Ministries in Livingston, Alabama, where we did home repairs, roofing, trash cleanup, painting, decking and built wheelchair ramps.
“Our junior high went to Oklahoma City and worked with a group called Mustard Seed that helps the impoverished and handicapped. Our young adults built a trench for a clinic and laid the foundation for an orphanage in Costa Rica.
“We are looking forward to the coming year and what God has in store for the mission work at Aledo United Methodist Church,” he said.
