The Painted Post Chapter of Legacy Outfitters announces its first Varmint Hunting Contest. The hunt will take place Jan. 25-26.
The event features 80 percent payback, with 20 percent benefitting the Painted Post Chapter of Legacy Outfitters, a Christian-based organization whose goal is to enrich the lives of men so they are better husbands, fathers and community members.
“Hunting is allowed anywhere in the state of Texas that you have permission to hunt or on state land where varmint hunting is legal and you have the necessary permit and license,” event organizer Monty Mitchell said, adding that participants must have a valid Texas hunting license and follow all relevant laws.
Hunters in groups of up to four receive points for mountain lions, bobcats, coyotes, foxes, raccoons and hogs. Prizes include a Remington 700 VSF 22-250 with a Vortex Viper scope and Wicked Lights marksman kit donated by Bargain Hunters Outdoors of Weatherford, as well as a bobcat mount donated by Backwoods Taxidermy in Mineral Wells.
The event also features special prizes for hunters younger than 17 and several optional side pots.
Mitchell encourages hunters of all ages to sign up for the event. Non-hunting family members are invited to a free luncheon at the Palo Pinto County Sheriff’s Posse building in Mineral Wells at weigh-in, set for noon on Sunday, Jan. 26.
