A Parker County Sheriff’s deputy was seriously injured in a vehicle crash Sunday evening.
Sheriff’s Patrol Sergeant Kim Cooper was on duty in a marked patrol unit returning to the sheriff’s office following a call she responded to around 8:30 p.m. Sunday when the wreck occurred on State Highway 51 North.
According to reports, Sgt. Cooper was pinned in the patrol vehicle until assisting personnel and an emergency services crew arrived to rescue her from the vehicle. The northbound lanes of Highway 51 North were shut down briefly during the incident. Sgt. Cooper was flown to a Fort Worth hospital by air ambulance, where she remains in emergency care.
Parker County Sheriff Larry Fowler said Sgt. Cooper is a well-respected and valued leader in the division.
“She is a very strong individual,” Fowler said. “The entire department is pulling for her. At this time, we are very hopeful for a full recovery and are praying for her and her family.”
The accident is being investigated by the Texas Department of Public Safety. Further details of the crash will be pending that investigation.
Sgt. Cooper has been with the Parker County Sheriff’s Office since 2005. She was soon promoted to corporal and is currently one of four patrol sergeants.
