The lane closures on FM 1187 that were set to begin last week will take place this week instead, between Monday, April 29, and Thursday, May 2, according to TxDOT officials.
The change was made to accommodate STAAR testing at Aledo ISD schools, TxDOT PIO Val Lopez said.
Traffic will be reduced to one lane between Oak and Elm streets from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., as construction crews install an underground storm drainage line. Flagmen will direct motorists through the construction zone.
“We appreciate motorists’ patience while crews complete this construction,”Lopez said, encouraging alternate routes.
East Oak Street at FM 1187 is now closed for the next four months, and the Underwood intersection with FM 1187 was to have closed yesterday, also for four months, Public Works Director Gordon Smith said Thursday.
The detour route for the Underwood Road closure is West Oak to Pine, then Pine to Underwood.
The $11.7 million FM 1187 project will expand the two-lane road to a four-lane divided, concrete roadway with raised medians, curb and gutter and sidewalks.
Completion is estimated for winter 2014. The new roadway will tie into the one-way couplet known as Aledo Trail, in downtown Aledo.
