Traffic on FM 1187 between Oak and Elm streets will be reduced to one lane beginning mid-week, as large box culverts are installed for drainage, according to TxDOT officials.
Flagmen will direct the traffic, Public Information Officer Val Lopez said, stopping one lane to let the other pass, then reversing the process.
The schedule depends on the weather, Lopez said, but officials hope to have the project finished in about a week.
“We’re trying to do this as quickly as possible,” he said.
Intersection to close
The ongoing expansion of the city’s main corridor will also shut down the Oak Street/FM 1187 intersection for about four months, city officials said, also beginning this week.
Residents will still be able to access Oak Street by detouring through Elm Street.
Along with construction of the storm drainage system for FM 1187, work continues on roadway layout excavation and preparation of the road base.
A left turn signal was installed at Bankhead Highway and FM 1187 Wednesday.
Workers also planned to close the Underwood Street/ FM 1187 intersection yesterday to work on the Aledo Trail project.
