The Aledo City Council met new sheriff’s office deputy Tom Kaler Thursday night.
Kaler, employed by Parker County for more than 10 years, began his law enforcement career in Lake Worth in 1988 and has worked with police departments in Saginaw, Springtown and Blue Mound.
In Blue Mound, he served as chief of police.
Kaler has a master peace officer license and said he has earned more than 30 certifications and 11 commendations over the course of his career.
He claims a Bachelor of Arts in criminology from the University of Texas at Arlington and a Master of Education (special education, mild to moderate disabilities) from the University of North Texas.
Kaler says he is working toward his doctorate in clinical psychology with an emphasis on forensic psychology and neuropsychology and hopes to finish in four or five years.
“I worked in a small city before as a chief, and I get the politics in a small town,” he told the council.
Kaler is married and has three kids. He said he was looking forward to working with the citizens of Aledo and Parker County in the new post.
