Residents of Parker County are invited to participate in the Parker County Courthouse Christmas Lighting Ceremony set for 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 30.
In an effort to help fundraising for this year’s courthouse Christmas decorations, Parker County Judge Mark Riley is offering residents the opportunity to sponsor a battery-operated candle for $20 to be placed in the courthouse windows in honor or memory of a loved one.
Each candle sponsor, along with the name of the person the candle is dedicated to, will be listed in the program for the lighting ceremony.
In addition, all names will be placed in the Commissioners Court minutes for permanent record and the candles will be used for years to come in honor or memory of your loved one. “The courthouse is special to me and to this community,” Riley said. “The response to the lighting of the courthouse with stars and a 30-foot tree has been exciting. The citizens committee I appointed to lead this project has done an excellent job.”
Those who would like to sponsor a candle can do so by contacting Judge Riley at firstname.lastname@example.org or by calling his office at 817-598-6148 and speaking with any member of his staff.
Riley has been working with a local citizens committee to bring back the beautiful Christmas look of the Parker County Courthouse that was once a common theme for this historic building during the Christmas holiday season.
“Throughout Texas and especially here in Parker County our courthouses are a direct window into our heritage,” Riley said. “Our courthouse, the crown jewel as I like to call it, is a reminder to everyone who sees it of not only who we were as a community, but who we are as a community. What we do today with our courthouse will help shape what we will become in the future.”
