The East Parker County Library will host a giant book sale from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, June 28, at its location at 201 N. FM Road 1187.
A wide range of paperback and hardback books will be available — especially for early birds, according to Library Director Sue Ellen Shaw, with prices ranging from a quarter for “bargain bin” children’s books to good values for older books and coffee table tomes.
Most paperbacks will cost $1, she said, with $5 for hardback books.
“We have a storage unit where we’ve been collecting books, and I think we have 1,000 at least,” she said. “Anything in decent condition — we’ll sell it.”
Shaw said residents have been great about making donations, often contributing brand new books that would make good gifts.
“Some people are using altered books for art projects,” she offered.
Shaw said Julie Beans Ice Cream Truck will attend the event, but has not committed to a set schedule.
The Moncrief Cancer Institute Mammogram Mobile Unit will also be on hand, she said, but will set up in the Aledo First Baptist Church parking lot behind InterBank.
The mammograms, by appointment only, are fully funded for those without insurance, a representative from the Institute said, and most forms of insurance will be accepted with payment of a co-pay.
Eligible individuals must be age 35 or older, must not have had a mammogram for at least one year and must not have been diagnosed with breast cancer in the last five years.
To make an appointment for the June 28 event, call 1-800-405-7739 by Thursday, May 24.
All proceeds will go to library upgrades.
