Negotiations on which entity should pay for improvements to North Front Street — the City of Aledo, Parker County or both — continued Thursday, with the Aledo City Council again approving a request for county transportation bond funds to extend the concrete paving east.
The request excludes the Mesquite Street intersection that abuts North Front Street. The city is also offering to pay for two more streetlights.
City Administrator Ken Pfeifer said the request is based on precedent, the county’s use of bond funds to pave an entire street in another city.
Although County Judge Mark Riley supported the first request from the Aledo council, saying the extension should have been part of the initial project, Precinct 4 Commissioner Dusty Renfro argued that Aledo taxpayers should shoulder at least half the original $99,350 cost.
Renfro has also said that the pavement on North Front Street is not in need of repair.
