The family participated in the Race for the Cure together each year following Carol Ann’s diagnosis. Sadly, after treatment her cancer returned in 2003 and she passed away at 54 years of age. Today, the family continues to participate in the annual Race for the Cure and Thompson has made it his mission to inspire others to get involved and be a part of finding a cure for breast cancer.
“I miss my mother every single day. There is still work to do, more funds to raise and a cure to still to be found, and that is why I work so hard for Komen,” said Thompson. “It is for my own Mom and the women like her everywhere.”
The Race for the Cure is the world’s largest and most effective fundraising and educational event for breast cancer, while honoring breast cancer survivors.
Participants in the Race are encouraged to raise funds for education, awareness, research and treatment of breast cancer. The Race for the Cure will be held Mother’s Day weekend, Saturday, May 10, at Ridgmar Mall in Fort Worth. For more information or to register online go to www.komengreaterfortworth.org.
