The mother-in-law of an Aledo resident was arrested by sheriff’s county deputies late last month on a charge of aggravated assault, according to a probable cause affidavit.

The affidavit, filed by a Parker County Sheriff’s Office deputy against Denise S. Combs, 51, states that a deputy was dispatched shortly after noon, June 26, to the 6900 block of East Bankhead Highway in Aledo for a domestic disturbance.

Upon arrival, the deputy met with the 27-year-old male victim, who said that his mother-in-law, Combs, had come to his residence demanding that he return money he owed her, according to the affidavit.

The victim said Combs was taking things out of the victim’s vehicle and throwing them in the driveway, according to the affidavit. She then produced a pistol and pointed it at him, the affidavit states, demanding the money.

Afraid for his life, the victim said he ran behind the residence and called 911, according to the affidavit.

As the deputy interviewed the victim, Combs drove by the residence, the affidavit states, and the deputy asked her to state what happened.

Combs told the officer that she went to the victim’s residence because he owed her money and said the victim told her he didn’t have any, according to the affidavit.

At first, Combs denied knowledge of the pistol, the affidavit states, but later said it was a toy that she discarded a short distance from the residence.

When asked to reveal the pistol’s location, Combs took deputies about 100 yards to the west of the residence, according to the affidavit.

Deputies located an RG Industries Model 14 .22-caliber pistol on the south side of the road in a ditch, the affidavit states.

Combs was arrested and transported to the Parker County Jail.

Jail records show the defendant to be a Weatherford resident. The records show her name as Denise Ann Combs and said she uses Denise Sartain as an alias.

Combs was confined at 1:41 p.m. June 26 and released the following day at 11:50 p.m. Bond was posted at $15,000.
