About a quarter of a century after he served in the U.S. Marines’ Fourth Division and took part what was then the largest amphibious assault in the nation’s history at Saipan, Pastor Joe Ray Griffin became pastor of North Side Baptist Church, where he and his wife, Hazel Dean, served 20 years.
