1114 one injection well sites.jpg

This county area map, taken from a study by Cliff Frohlich, associate director and senior research scientist at the University of Texas Institute for Geophysics, shows injection wells in use since October 2006. Earthquake epicenters — of earthquakes in 2009-11 — are shown as red circles, injection wells as squares and plus symbols, and mapped faults as green lines. Yellow squares show injection wells with the maximum monthly injection rates — 150,000 barrels of water per month — while white squares and plus signs indicate wells with lower rates.
