Fives Times a Champion — In its most impressive season, — perhaps ever — the Aledo Bearcats stormed its way through 16 unfortunate opponents to claim their fifth UIL State Football Championship. During its trek to the Class 4A, Division II title, Aledo set new marks at the state and national levels. A couple of the most lauded were kicker Chance Nevarez’ consecutive successful point-after-touchdown boots, numbering 207, and the prolific Bearcat offense setting a new mark for total points in a single season. Aledo scored 1,023 points, blowing past the previous record of 903 set in 2001. Despite the efficiency of the offense, the impressive domination of the Bearcat defense made for a most-complete team.
