Key dieticians and top leaders in the Texas nutrition community gathered in Amarillo to participate in the Texas Beef Council’s (TBC) The Ranch — An Insider’s View of the Beef Industry event. The three-day seminar took place against the backdrop of some of Texas’ historical ranches currently practicing modern beef production and environmental stewardship. While getting a glimpse into the beef industry, participants learned the latest nutrition research related to beef from top researchers in the U.S., visited a feedyard and also heard from two of the beef industry’s leading scientists on beef safety and production.

Fuel your body

Each year, more than 10,000 runners and spectators from all over the U.S. head to the beach for the 26.2 mile Beach to Bay relay marathon held in Corpus Christi. This year, the Texas Beef Council (TBC) was on-hand sharing beef’s positive nutrition messages with consumers. TBC served 2,500 lean beef kabobs and gave away 2,400 beef bags filled with recipes, nutritional brochures and spice packets. TBC sponsored two category-winning teams, both of which wore ‘Lean Beef is Fuel for Your Body’ running shirts.

Keeping beef center plate

The North American Meat Processors Association held its annual Center of the Plate training seminar in College Station bringing together packers, processors and purveyors that supply the foodservice industry. The seminar, sponsored in part by the Beef Checkoff Program, brought together over 60 participants from 32 leading supply companies. Beef and veal industry experts shared new beef foodservice advertising, merchandising materials and the new Veal Optimization study.

Cinco de Mayo celebration

The Texas Beef Council’s (TBC) mobile marketing unit was transformed into ‘La Gran Parrillada,’ or Great Grill Out, for the Cinco de Mayo celebration in Weslaco City Park. As a part of the festivities, TBC’s Chef Harry Salazar enticed the crowd with cooking demonstrations featuring Steak Salad with Roasted Pablano Vinaigrette. TBC also distributed beef samples, Spanish language beef recipes and nutritional information to consumers attending the annual celebration.
