WEATHERFORD —

TCU defensive end Devonte Fields and punter Ethan Perry have received Freshman All-America honors from CBSSports.com with Fields additionally being named the National Defensive Freshman of the Year by Scout.com (FOX Sports NEXT).

TCU is one of just five schools to have two selections on the CBSSports.com Freshman All-America team.

Fields is a first-team choice on Scout.com’s Freshman All-America squad with Perry a second-team pick.

Fields is the Associated Press Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year and a unanimous selection by the conference coaches as the Defensive Freshman of the Year.

A native of Arlington, Texas, Fields tops the Big 12 in tackles for loss (17 1/2) while ranking second in sacks (9.0). He’s forced two fumbles and recovered one while recording an interception and three pass breakups.

Fields’ nine sacks have broken the TCU freshman record of seven set by eventual NFL All-Pro Aaron Schobel in 1997. The nine sacks tie for sixth-best in a season at TCU. Fields has taken part in a sack in eight of 12 games. His 49 tackles top the defensive front and are seventh on TCU.

Perry, an honorable-mention All-Big 12 selection, tops all freshmen nationally and ranks ninth overall with a 45.2 average. His mark places second for a single season at TCU, trailing only Chris Becker’s Horned Frog record of 46.1 in 1986.

Perry, from Spring Branch, Texas, had a pair of punts over 60 yards in averaging 49.0 yards on eight attempts in the regular-season finale versus Oklahoma.

Nineteen of Perry’s 56 punts on the season have gone at least 50 yards with 16 downed inside the 20.
