Anti-tax protest in Houston draws 10,000

HOUSTON (AP) — An anti-tax protest at a horse racing track in Houston drew a crowd of more than 10,000 on the eve of the election.



Members of the North Houston Tea Party Patriots gathering Monday night to demonstrate against proposed health care reform and what they called big government spending.



The crowd at Sam Houston Race Park cheered as speakers called for them to take control of the U.S. government and defend the Constitution.



Laureen Jones and Joan Orozco of The Woodlands told the Houston Chronicle that they were on hand to protest government spending and government-run health care.



Race park officials said preliminary attendance numbers, putting the crowd at more than 10,000, were based on turnstiles.
