ALEDO — Students at Aledo Middle School were treated to presentations by local business leaders to encourage them to begin thinking about their future education and career choices.
The discussions are part of the Texas Scholars program, an initiative of the Texas Business and Education Coalition.
“The presentations encourage eighth graders to think about high school and its relevance to the future,” said Marsha Miholovich, Aledo ISD deputy superintendent. “They also stimulate students to ponder their future careers, explore their passions and get a taste of reality regarding the cost of living in the real world.”
Business and community leaders that presented are Adam Feriend, Weatherford National Bank; Louis Sneed, Weatherford National Bank; Diane Johnson, First National Bank Weatherford; Brent Gough, Edward Jones Investments; Steve Bartley, Aledo National Bank; Crystal Cobb, Aledo National Bank; Bobby J. Rigues, State Farm Insurance; Whit Coffield, CPA; Jeffrey Stachmus, Pulliam Pools; Dale Mares, Allstate Financial Service, LLC; Kevin Wright, Town & Country Bank; Paula Jones, Town & Country Bank; and Craig Harbuck, Higginbotham & Associates.
Community leaders and educators work together to motivate students to take a more purposeful approach in high school and to plan for and work toward a career of their choosing after high school.
To be named Texas Scholars, students in the class of 2007-08 are required to graduate from high school having completed the Recommended High School Program, and at least two courses eligible for college credit during their high school years. High school students that entered the ninth grade prior to this current school year will follow the Texas Scholars criteria that was in effect when they entered ninth grade.
