Treating you like family

People have moved south and west across the country for hundreds of years, the call of sunny, warm weather words to many ears.

Such is the case of new area dentist Michael Shelby, who has opened his new practice, Shelby Dental, at 2035 Fort Worth Highway, Suite 500, in Weatherford. Shelby is a Montana native, doing his undergraduate work at the University of Montana. He then completed dental school, and got a taste of a warmer climate, at Nova Southeastern University’s College of Dental Medicine in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

After finishing dental school, he opened his practice in the northern Montana town of Havre, a town of about 10,000 people just 30 miles for the Canadian border in 2006. With all the outdoor fun of skiing, fishing and hunting the Rockies offer, Shelby and his family still began to feel the pull south.

“We had vacationed in Texas prior to moving here, so it’s not like we just decided one day to come here,” Shelby said. “We had been to Austin, Waco, places where people vacation.”

After seven years up north, he and his wife, Kathleen, decided to make the move south with their children: Paige, 14, Lily, 12 and Noel, 4. Since the move, little Victoria has graced the family being born within the last three weeks. Shelby said he had a job offer near here which brought him south, but that fell through.

He and his wife did like the area, however, so they decided to place down roots in town and begin construction on the building. Shelby said work on the practice took between three and four months before the doors finally opened Feb. 17.

Shelby said work has been steady since he opened his doors, barely having time to discuss his business because of the influx of patients. He has been doing in house and out of house promotions to drum up new patients.
