Cutting the drive

By BRIAN SMITH

In an attempt to keep local residents to have to drive to Fort Worth for their rehab therapy, groundbreaking on a 26-bed, 27.000 square-foot rehab hospital took place Thursday morning.

Weatherford Rehabilitation Hospital is being built on the site of the former American Legion Hall at 703 Eureka St., less than a half-mile from Weatherford Regional Medical Center. Members of the American Legion Post 163 were on hand at the groundbreaking, as were Weatherford Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors.

Mark Harris, Chief Executive Officer of Maxim Management Group, which will operate the facility, said he is pleased to be able to expand his company’s name into the Fort Worth area.

“We are excited to be bringing a state-of-the-art inpatient rehabilitation hospital to Weatherford,” Harris said. “Patients had to travel to Fort Worth for this type of care in the past so there was a great need for a local facility like this, especially with the growing population of seniors.”

With a number of hospitals already in both Texas and Louisiana, Harris said he began looking into construction of a facility in Weatherford about two years ago, checking the need and interest for a facility. To do that, they contacted officials and doctors at Weatherford Regional Medical Center who were looking for a mutually beneficial relationship.

David Orcutt, chief executive officer with WRMC, says it’s great to “see another health care provider in town which will keep the people of Parker County from having to drive to Fort Worth.”

““We welcome Weatherford Rehabilitation Hospital to the growing Weatherford medical district, and are excited about their ability to serve the needs of Parker County residents with local access,” Orcutt said.

Harris said he also met with local veterans at the American Legion Post 163, where construction of the hospital is being done. Everyone has been very supportive of the project, Harris said.
