Tops in Weatherford

By BRIAN SMITH

The girl with a minor in dance has turned into a major force in dancing locally.

Weatherford resident Crystal Frank, owner/operator of Elite Performing Arts Conservatory, majored in marketing and advertising and minored in dance at Texas Tech. She went into the corporate world for a few years before becoming a stay at home mom to her three kids.

With her kids growing up, Frank decided she wanted to go back to her first love and start her own studio. As her degree in marketing and advertising taught her,  she decided to think big and jump into the project with both feet.

Opening one studio would seem like a daunting task but on April 15, 2013, Frank not only opened one in Hudson Oaks, but also in five other cities, including Austin, Houston, Dallas and Fort Worth. Frank said she was able to find instructors and artistic directors for the other studios via Monster and other dance affiliated websites.

Things have gone well so far locally, as the Hudson Oaks studio has about 50 students taking classes in dance, acting and modeling as well. Frank says the studio is growing by leaps and bounds, doubling enrollment from her first semester to the next.

The studio is not brick and mortar, as Frank rents space at Lakeshore Drive Baptist Church in Hudson Oaks two days a week. Acting/modeling classes meet once a week on Monday with dance classes held on Tuesday afternoon.

The acting/modeling class has about 12 students ages 7-11 right now. Frank designs her classes into six weeks of intensive study of certain genres, such as TV/film acting, stage acting, print and runway modeling and more. During the six weeks, students learn different terminology and actually how to go into a script reading, interview and get a part, Frank said.
