WEATHERFORD — Steak and seafood enthusiasts will have the opportunity to try out one of Weatherford’s newest cuisine additions next week.

Copper Creek Restaurant, which specializes in steak and seafood, is expanding from its primary location in Weatherford, and is set to open Sept. 1 off Interstate 20 in front of Home Depot.

“I’m told its pretty good,” Weatherford director of economic development Dennis Clayton said.

The original Copper Creek opened in Abilene in 2005.

“Weatherford is expanding, and a lot of people in Abilene come through that way. It’s been in the owner’s head for awhile to expand,” Cory Kruz, manager of the Abilene location, said. “There are a lot of fine dining establishments in Dallas and Fort Worth, but we thought Weatherford would be the perfect place.”

So far the news of the new location has received positive feedback, with customers from Weatherford and nearby areas calling to ask about the opening, Kruz said.

With a few steak/seafood options already in Weatherford, Kruz said one of the main differences was the divide between corporations and locally owned.

“You have Logan’s, you have Texas Roadhouse, a lot of different steakhouses that are corporate chains,” he said.

Some of the menu highlights include handcut steaks and fresh fish.

Construction of the actual structure has been under way for about four months, with the grand opening set for next month.

“We’re currently hiring, and we’re always looking for servers, cooks and hostesses,” Kruz said.
