Working with the family

(Continued)

“Colonscopies should be done about every 10 years after the age of 50 for men, but if there is a family history of colon cancer those checks should begin earlier,” Desmukh said. “What a lot of people don’t know is that there is both medical and surgical relief for colon issues.”

Relief from kidney stones, which one in five Texans suffer from due to diet and genetics, and incontinence can also be found by seeing a urologist, Desmukh said.

Incontinence, or overactive bladder, is becoming an issue more people are willing to talk about. One in three women will suffer from it during their lifetimes. The issue can also lead to sexual withdrawal and even depression which is easily remedied, Desmukh said.

Desmukh is continuing expanding his practice with a location in Aledo coming soon. He also wants to expand by speaking to local organizations and civic clubs about what a urologist can provide. He has spoken to a number of international organizations about the issue.

“I believe in continuing education, for myself and for the public,” Desmukh said. “Information is a powerful thing.”

North Central Texas Urology is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday with hours on Saturday in Stephenville. For information, visit ncturology.com For an appointment, call 817-599-3690.
