Filling it up

Weatherford residents will soon have another place to get their groceries ... for both themselves and their car.

Construction on a new 8-pump self service gas station began recently at Brookshire’s, 601 Palo Pinto Street, and is expected to be complete sometime this Fall, according to Brookshire Public Relations Director Rebecca Sanders.

Out of 154 Brookshire’s and Super 1 Food Stores in the chain, 84 of them will has gasoline. Brookshire’s has been offering gasoline at select stores since 1995, Sanders said, and it has been fairly popular.

“Having a fuel center at Brookshire’s in Weatherford will offer purchasers a convenient way to fill up when they shop for groceries,” Sanders said.

Drivers will not only be able to get gasoline at the station but two of the pumps will also sell ultra-low sulfur diesel. Brookshire’s will also offer its gas at competitive prices in the area.

The grocery chain also offers a creative way to save money on gasoline while making purchases inside the store. With the Yourpoints program, which is linked to a customer’s Thank You card, customers earn points for their in-store purchases to the tune of one point per dollar spent. Those points can then be redeemed for discounts on not only fuel but future grocery purchases.

According to Sanders, in Texas, fuel can be discounted for 10 cents a gallon for every 100 points a customer has, up to 30 gallons per vehicle.

“I bought gas last weekend and had 361 points on my card.  I entered the phone number linked to my Thank You card and it asked if I wanted to redeem 300 points for gas.  I pushed “Yes” and the price at the pump actually went from $3.28 per gallon to $2.98 per gallon,” Sanders said.  “It is really fun to watch, and certainly fun to save.”
