Getting a jump

Weatherford Democrat

National retailer Batteries Plus Bulbs opened a location in Weatherford earlier this month.

Regional Manager Danny Fotter, who runs the Weatherford store at 2529 S. Main, Suite 104, said business has been steady since it opened June 11. Fotter said sales have been more impressive in Weatherford than they were when the North Arlington store, which he also runs, first opened. Franchise Owner Doc Garth is no stranger to franchise ownership, operating four additional stores in Arlington, Fort Worth and Richland Hills.

Customers were moving in and out during a recent lunch hour. Many didn’t realize the store now stocks a number of different type of light bulbs as well. Fotter said bulbs were introduced into existing stores a couple of years ago and are now part of the name in all new stores.

“We’re not just batteries anymore,” Fotter said.

The store stocks more than 45,000 different types of batteries; everything from AA batteries to cars and everywhere in between. In addition to its impressive battery offerings, Batteries Plus Bulbs’ light bulb products include everything from the common recessed lighting, track lighting, incandescent and LED options to extraordinary, highly-specialized light bulbs for cars, healthcare equipment, aquariums, projectors, and much more. Batteries Plus Bulbs’ experts are trained to help educate consumers on the value of switching from incandescent bulbs to CFLs or LEDs and can recommend color temperature and brightness options depending on the room or lighting application.

Batteries Plus Bulbs also serves businesses with their lighting needs for emergency lights, exit signs, parking lot lights, ceiling lights and vehicle lights, among other applications. Business account programs offer customers volume discount opportunities, onsite needs analysis, energy savings programs, online ordering, and delivery and recycling services. The two items combined are a more than $45 billion annual industry, according to a press release.

The Weatherford store also offers an on-site tech center to assemble, test, condition and design custom battery packs for rechargeable household and business-to-business products.  Batteries Plus Bulbs offers battery installation services for many applications including watches, cars, trucks, and keyless remotes, among others with no appointment necessary.  The store also offers an in-store recycling program using EPA-approved methods for safely recycling batteries, light bulbs, and select portable electronic devices.

Fotter and sales associate Bud Neff also sell automotive accessories, including jumper cables, terminals, cleaners, and more. Batteries Plus Bulbs, opened its first store in 1988 and has grown to more than 560 locations across 46 states and Puerto Rico.

The store is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. For information about the local store, contact Fotter at 599-8700.
