Let's get physical

By BRIAN SMITH

After 32 years in business, Dennis Connelly, former owner of Weatherford Physical Therapy who now runs Active Physical Therapy of Aledo, says there are a number of reasons he is still in business after all these years.

“There are a lot of good places for physical therapy in the area, but our physical therapists are like family and have been here 31 and 26 years,” Connelly said. “Physical therapy is a very mobile business, but our patients know who they’re going to see from appointment to appointment.”

Connelly said having good people day in and day out is paramount to success as well.

“We like to spend more time with a patient to get to know them so we can truly assist in recovery,” Connelly said.

Current owner Mark Blackburn says having a stable atmosphere for employees helps create a caring atmosphere for patients, which assists in customer service. Physical Therapist John Brown said keeping waiting time to a minimum is importa tn something that is focused on.

Connelly said that new patients can normally be seen within 24-48 hours and, in emergency cases, that same day.

“Customer service is our number one goal,” Blackburn, who bought the business in 2003 so Connelly could attend Dallas Theological Seminary, said.

Connelly said he opened the business on May 17, 1982 and started out downtown, working exclusively as a contract facility with Weatherford Regional Medical Center. After the relationship with the hospital ended, Connelly moved the facility to its present location at 141 College Park Dr. Active Physical Therapy was opened “about 2 1/2 years ago” at 519 Pine St., Suite 103, in Aledo.

Physical therapy has received a bad mindset from the public as far as patient pain is concerned. Brown says that’s not true.

“The public thinks that we have to hurt them to get healthy and that’s not always the case,” Brown said. “We do an assessment and find out what’s going on.”
