After several years in Missouri, former Weatherford dentist Guy Walker has come back to town to open his practice.
Renovation work on the office formerly owned by Dr. Paul Phillips, who recently retired, has begun, Walker said and is expected to be finished just after the first of the year. In the meantime, Walker is still seeing patients on a very limited basis.
While the office is being renovated, Walker is using the back of the facility, which was added on to after a fire at the office at 200 E. Rentz St. to treat patients. When the renovation is complete, a complete facelift will have been completed with new windows, cabinets, furniture, equipment, a new foyer/waiting area and more. To allow customers who wanted a piece of the longtime dentist’s office a chance to have some memorabilia, a garage sale was held recently, including the sale of some stained glass windows our front.
Walker said the sale went well with the office’s proximity to Main Street a major plus. No further expansion of the office itself is planned with just the renovations being done.
Walker said he has known Phillips for many years, taking part in a dental study class together. After completing school at TCU and the Baylor College of Dentistry in Dallas, Walker opened up shop in 1976 in the back of what is now Bowie Drive Dental Care.
Over the years, however, Walker and his wife decided they wanted a change of landscape and had friends in Missouri. The couple moved to Fredericktown, a small town about 100 miles south of St. Louis. Walker admitted wanting to raise his kids on a farm was part of the reason behind the move as well.
“I wanted to raise Angus cattle and give the kids a work ethic that you can only find on the farm,” Walker said.
While Missouri was a great place, having Walker’s wife’s parents in the area and a daughter living in Fort Worth began to be too much of a pull and the move to Texas was completed in August 2012.
Walker said he was doing temporary work for a number of Fort Worth dentists before the opportunity to take over Phillips’ practice came open.
Walker does general dentistry, including fillings, cosmetic crowns, bridges, implants, customized dentures as well as root canals. He is offering a grand opening special for new and existing patients including a cleaning, comprehensive exam and complete X-rays.
