Divorce in Genealogy; It’s not a new thing

WEATHERFORD – Have you looked for more than 20 years for a great-grandmother or grandfather’s final resting place with no luck? Maybe they didn’t die between the census years after all. Maybe there was a divorce in the family.

Despite current thinking that divorces only started happening after World War II, divorces have been available for more than 200 years in this country. Come to the Weatherford Public Library Auditorium on Oct. 31 at 2:30 p.m. and listen to genealogy librarian Jean Bennett discuss the history of divorce in American, how and where to find divorce records and ways in which people hid the “shameful” truth.
