Weatherford Democrat

WEATHERFORD — WEATHERFORD — The Weatherford ISD Community Education Department is offering a variety of camps this summer.

Beginning July 11, there will be GuitarKidz I and II Music Camps for children ages 8 and up. GuitarKidz I is for beginners who would love to learn to play the guitar. No music background is required. Students will have the opportunity to try their hand at the bass guitar, drums and other instruments. The beginner camp will meet from 9 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. Monday through Friday, at the Travis Learning Center, 602 W. Water St.

The GuitarKidz II Camp is a follow up music camp for students who have attended a prior GuitarKidz I camp, or who have had private lessons and know the basics. The intermediate camp will meet from 1 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. the week of July 11 through July 15, also at Travis. If children choose to take the GuitarKidz I camp in July, they will have the opportunity to take the GuitarKidz II camp, which will be offered the week of Aug. 8 through Aug. 12.

For youth 9 and up, Community Ed is offering a one day class from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, July 10, on Pet First Aid. This course is designed to help pet owners provide temporary, urgent care to their pets until they can reach a veterinarian or emergency clinic. A “Pet First Aid and Disaster Response Guide” will be available to purchase from the instructor for $20. (Students will need to bring a stuffed animal to class to practice on.)

For “camera buffs,” a Photography Camp is being offered Monday, July 11 through Wednesday, July 13. Campers will learn how to get the right shot on disposable cameras, while learning about lighting, cropping and centering their subject. Campers will take what they learn in class and take photos on their own, crop their photos, have them printed and bring them back to class Wednesday for critiquing and to be posted in a gallery, which all campers and parents are invited to attend from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 16, at the Travis Learning Center.

Community Ed is sponsoring the “Young Rembrandts – The Power of Drawing” classes this summer. The next session of four classes also begins July 11. These classes meet every Monday for four weeks. There is a session for preschoolers ages 3 1/2 to 5, and one for elementary students ages 6 to 12. These classes are held in the evenings. All drawing materials are provided, and there are new lessons taught each week.

To register for any of these classes or camps, contact the Community Ed Office at 602 W. Water St., 817-598-2806, or
