WCS starts year with new head of school, secondary principal

Weatherford Christian School this week announced it has hired a new head of school for the 2013-14 school year.

Courtney McKeown, who had been serving as the school’s elementary administrator, was approached by the WCS Board of Directors to fill the head of school role based on her successful track record, diligent work ethic and, most importantly, her love for God. Board members said they could not be more pleased with their decision.

McKeown completed her undergraduate studies at the University of North Texas, where she graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Interdisciplinary Studies and a minor in Elementary Education, emphasis in Early Childhood Education.

She spent the last 16 years involved with education both as a director and teacher and has institutions such as The Academy at Larson Elementary, South Oaks Baptist Church Child Development Center, The Fine Arts Academy and, most recently, Weatherford Christian School.

McKeown is a member at Northside Baptist Church, where she serves on the Finance Committee. She served as the Parent Teacher Partnership President at WCS from 2009-13 and on the WCS board from 2010-12 before resigning to become the elementary administrator. She was named Teacher of the Year at Larson Academy in 2000, and was a PTA Life Membership recipient, also in 2000.

McKeown is currently pursuing her Master of Educational Leadership degree at Texas Christian University, scheduled to finish in May of 2014.

She currently resides in Weatherford with her husband, Brian, and her two daughters, Delaney and Camden.

“The position as head of school is one that I accept humbly, and do not take lightly,” McKeown said. “I am extremely excited to get going because I now get to experience firsthand the amazing staff at our secondary campus and walk alongside all our WCS staff during a time of exciting growth and change.”
