Wiley receives Iota Chi award

Libby Wiley, art teacher at Mineral Wells High School and member of Iota Chi, the Weatherford chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, received a $270 award from her chapter to facilitate her attending the National Art Educators Association Convention in Fort Worth March 8-11.

The NAEA Convention brought together art teachers from across the country to exchange ideas and concerns and to address issues as diverse as clay techniques, funding sources and electronic media.

The featured speakers topics included “ Interactive Museums and Their Futures;” “Catching Criminals,” presented by Lois Gibson, one of just 26 forensic artists in the country today; and “Beauty Is Embarrassing,” presented by Wayne White, three time Emmy winner, designer and puppeteer for Pee Wee’s Playhouse.

The Fort Worth museums and colleges provided many special hands on programs ranging from Bernini clay sculpture from Italy to blowing glass in Arlington.

“For me, as the only art teacher on my campus, the opportunity to explore and interact with teachers in my field has been exciting and very stimulating,” Wiley said. “I hope to take this new found knowledge back into my classroom and share it with my students.”
