Commencement ceremonies set for WC

Saturday, May 11, is a big day for the more than 360 students eligible for graduation from academic and technical programs at Weatherford College.

Traditionally, about half that number will take that walk across the Jerry Durant Auditorium stage at Weatherford High School to receive their associate degree diplomas or certificates.

Due to the historically large crowds, WC officials have planned two separate ceremonies to allow adequate seating for all the excited family and friends of graduates. The first ceremony, for those completing associate’s degrees in Arts and in Sciences, begins at 10 a.m., and the second at 2 p.m. is for those completing associates in Applied Science and certificate technical programs.

“By holding two separate ceremonies, we hope it will allow our graduates and their families and friends to enjoy every aspect of this momentous occasion,” said Vicki Traweek, WC registrar. “Our staff has worked very hard to make this a great day for everyone.”

An appropriate ticket will be required for entry into the auditorium.

Graduates and the attendees will hear keynote messages from honor student Pender Morrow, outgoing vice president of Phi Theta Kappa, during the morning service and mother/daughter team, Wendy and Kurstie Franks, will address the afternoon crowd.

“Wendy’s mother also graduated from WC, so this is a generational accomplishment for the family,” said Traweek.

Additionally, WC Honor students and Highest Honor students will be recognized, as well as the Faculty Member of the Year, who will be announced by Sandra Hartnitt, president of Faculty Senate and Early Childhood Education instructor.

For more information about WC graduation, interested persons may contact Traweek’s office at 817-598-6218, or e-mail vtraweek@wc.edu.
