WEATHERFORD — Mike West as Rick (the nerd), and Christopher Reaves as Willum, take the stage this weekend along with fellow cast members of “The Nerd,” written by Larry Shue and produced by special arrangement with Dramatists Play Service. Theatre Off the Square’s February production will run two more weekends, which include today and Feb. 15-17, with Friday and Saturday performances beginning at 8 p.m. and Sunday matinees beginning at 2 p.m.
Willum (played by Christopher Reaves) is an architect in Terra Haute, Indiana who is celebrating his 34th birthday with his friends, Tansy and Axel. One of his clients, Warnock (played by Chuck Hudson), along with his wife and son (played by Joyce Eckstein and Tony Garrett), also are invited to the dinner party. The entire party becomes an entirely different matter when Rick (played by Mike West) arrives unexpectedly. Rick was responsible for saving Willum’s life when he was in the service, so Willum feels obligated to welcome Rick and make his visit as pleasant as possible. After the visit is extended, Willum’s hospitality becomes rather tedious which results in efforts by Willum and his friends to encourage Rick’s departure.
Theatre Off the Square is located at 114 N. Denton in Weatherford. For information, call (817) 341-8687 or visit the Web site at www.weatherfordtots.org.
