‘The Stage is Set’ gala event at the DHCC scheduled

WEATHERFORD — An evening of wonderful music and fine dining will take place at the Doss Heritage and Culture Center (DHCC) as they proudly present “The Stage is Set” gala event on Saturday, Nov. 15. This exciting second annual event is sponsored by Belk. Cocktails will begin at 6:30 p.m. followed by a special unveiling of an exciting new exhibit. The DHCC will be honoring local historian J.W. Brown, whose contributions to the Doss Center have been extremely generous.

The Gala committee is co-chaired by Honorable Judge Jerry and Dr. Brandi Buckner and Mr. and Mrs. Gene Dozier. Dr. Buckner said, “This will be one of the most spectacular events in Weatherford and I feel so privileged to co-chair the committee. We have some wonderful auction items, our community has been very generous in donating many different items.”

The transformation of DHCC will begin with the installation of more than 5,000 feet of Christmas lights on the windmill in front of the center. The job of illuminating the windmill will belong to the Weatherford Fire Department. Belk will begin decorating the 12-foot Christmas tree next week with ornaments of silver and turquoise as the Center takes on a magical holiday atmosphere in preparation for the gala.

The Rotating Gallery will play host to the new exhibit “Peoples of the Plateau: The Indian Photographs of Lee Moorhouse, 1898-1915,” which presents a rare glimpse into Native American life at the turn of the century. This stunning exhibit includes portraits and landscapes that display the majesty of the Northern Plains people.

The silent and live auction list is growing daily. Included in the list is a beautiful framed print by Jack Bryant, Cloisonné vase, a custom tooled saddle by Calvin Allen, Trotting Horse statue created by Miriam McMilliam and some of the finest prints and western paintings in Texas.

Executive chef Jon Bonnell of Bonnell’s Fine Texas Cuisine, will be serving his signature menu. The first course will be a chilled brandywine tomato soup. The second course will consist of mixed grill featuring smoked beef tenderloin and grilled quail, topped with poblano and tasso cream sauce, served over cheddar sage grits and julienne vegetables. The dessert will be a heavenly rich flourless chocolate Kahula cake with fresh berries. Guests will enjoy dinner while listening to Sydney Howell’s melodious harp.

The James and Dorothy Doss Heritage and Culture Center aims to improve the quality of life by becoming a dynamic institution for the preservation of the cultural heritage of Parker County through the exhibition of artifacts of historical value and the development of programs that cultivate community awareness and pride in our diverse heritage past, present and future.

Start your holidays with the Gala event of the year at the Doss Heritage and Culture Center.
