Phantom on stage this weekend

WEATHERFORD — The Phantom of the Opera, by Gene Traylor and presented with special arrangement with The Dramatic Publishing Company will be on stage Friday through Sunday, Nov. 21-23, at Theatre Off the Square at 114 N. Denton in Weatherford. G. Mike West directs this production with assistant director Pat Dohoney. Stage manager is Debby Herbel and lighting and sound director is Nik Braswell. Amy Youngblood and Debby Herbel did extensive research and sewing to create period costumes for the cast.

The Phantom, played by John Sempeles, moves stealthily throughout the opera causing anxious moments for those at the opera house and appearing mysteriously at unexpected moments. The directors of the Opera House, played by Duncan Alexander and Pat Dohoney, are attempting to keep business as usual on stage with the production of an opera making its debut. Chosen for the lead in the opera is Christine, played by Erin Yount. But all of the frightening rumors and accidents that have taken place cause Christine’s fiancé, Andre played by Jake Shanahan, to want more protection to be in place. Trying to keep an eye on Christine is Nanette, played by Karen Dohoney; Sophie played by Turah Shaver and Inspector Bournot, played by Wally Jones. G. Mike West also plays Dr. Debienne and Chris Reaves plays Monsieur Mercier.

Other cast members include ballet girls, Kaleigh Parker, Emily Teague and Victoria Teague; Mme. Carlotta played by Candace Brooks; stagehands/reporters and police are Joe Herbel, Yesenia Gallardo, Tina Radford, Asa Brown and Rodger Johnson; and Jessica Rooks as Alphonsia.

Theatre Off the Square is located at 114 N. Denton in Weatherford. Show times are 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Nov. 21 and 22, with Sunday matinee at 2 p.m. Nov. 23.
