2010 Stock Show parade winners announced

Local business takes first place in the Horse-drawn Vehicle category

FORT WORTH — The Fort Worth Stock Show’s annual All-Western Parade through downtown posted 212 entries and included 1,774 total animals, reports Philip Schutts, Stock Show Executive Committee Member and Parade Chairman.

The one-hour-and-thirty-minute event was watched by more than 100,000 people who lined Main and Houston streets between the Tarrant County Courthouse and the Fort Worth Convention Center.

Riding Group winners were First Place: Parsons Mounted Calvary, College Station; Second Place: Glory Riders, Denison; and Third Place: Circle L5 Riding Club, Fort Worth.

In the Sheriff’s Posse category, First Place went to Rockwall County; Second Place to Tarrant County and Third Place to Wise County.

In the Marching Bands division, Southwest Raider Marching Band took First Place; Western Hills High School Marching Band took Second Place; and Third Place was awarded to Paschal High School Marching Band. All of the marching bands are from Fort Worth. The award for Best Marching Group (other than a band) was given to the Marine Corps, from Fort Worth.

Horse-Drawn Vehicle awards were: First Place: White’s Funeral Home, Weatherford; Second Place: Texas Girls’ Choir, Fort Worth; and Third Place: J-L Ranch, Fort Worth.

The Texas/American Fellowship Of Cowboy Churches, Waxahachie, received the Chairman’s Award; the Outstanding Display of Western Heritage Award went to Legends Of Texas, Bedford; and the Most Colorful entry was awarded to Dwaine Taylor, Perrin, Texas.

Traveling the greatest distance to participate in the parade was the American Association Of Sheriff’s Posses and Riding Clubs of Clovis, New Mexico.

    FORT WORTH — Come join the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association (TSCRA) for a ranch gathering Thursday, at the Wise County Sheriff’s Posse Arena in Decatur. The gathering will begin at 6 p.m. with registration followed by a beef dinner and presentations.

  • Planned grazing course with Kirk Gadzia this April in Fort Worth

    FORT WORTH — Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers and Holistic Management Texas team up to offer a new “Planned Grazing” course at the Will Rogers Memorial Center April 21-25.
    The emphasis for this five-day course will be on grazing planning, but instructor Kirk Gadzia will cover rangeland monitoring, financial planning and land planning as well. The content will be relevant to both managerial and operational level employees, with varying levels of formal education. There will be a lands-on Learning aspect if weather permits. Class runs from 8am to 4:15pm each day.

    Moira and Clive, British tourists, had taken in the Arkansas attractions of Eureka Springs, the Chuck Wagon races in Clinton, the sale barn in Green Forest, and now found themselves in Fort Smith for the Arkansas Cattlemen’s Association Trail Drive.

    SAN ANTONIO — The Junior Market AOB Steer Show was held Feb. 19, at the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo.
    Taylor Cody won the honor of Breed Champion AOB with her 1334 pound steer.
