The spirit of giving

Kathleen Durham entered college with the hopes of becoming a police officer, she left the world of academia with the hopes of being the world’s best mom. But, despite the change in paths, she couldn’t be more pleased with the outcome.
For Durham, now 32, her life has come full circle, her aspirations to help others has always been a driving force in her life, and through hard work and never losing sight of what motivates her success, she is doing just that today.
“Everyday when I go home, I know that I helped at least one person,” Durham said, of her job as executive director of the Campbell Health Foundation. “That’s a good feeling. That’s what it has always been about for me, even when I was going to go into law enforcement after college, it was about helping people.”
For the past two years, Durham has worked diligently at the Health Foundation, helping underprivileged families and individuals in Parker County get help, a cause she believes is sometimes underrated.
“I don’t think many people realize how many under served people we have in our community,” she said. “There are homeless people living right her in Weatherford. If we all work together, as a community, we can help fix that.”
Durham’s desire to help is her passion, and something she says she works to instill not only in the community that surrounds her, but also in the two young boys and teenage girl who call her mom.
“You are never too busy to give back,” she said. “I’m very adamant about that with my children. My hope is that as they grow, they will continue to have community service and volunteering on their minds.”
Durham said she hopes to see the foundation she holds so dear grow in the future to reach even more people, education and expansion are tops on the young director’s to-do list.
“I think expanding the foundation and making sure that everyone is educated on the healthcare needs or our county is what I strive for in the future,” she said.
