Letters to the Editor, April 6, 2008

Attention to all

senior citizens

Dear editor,

During Bill Clinton’s tour of duty, a 70 percent tax increase was put on our Social Security benefits and raised taxes more than $7 billion a year.

Each year inflation and bracket creep force more and more low-income seniors on fixed incomes to be hit with this unfair tax.

Social Security was set up as a trust between the government and the working class and should not be taxed.

All seniors receiving Social Security benefits should write or call on Congress to make repealing Clinton’s outrageous and unfair tax increase their No. 1 tax cutting priority, and to pass H.R. 2507 (the Seniors Financial Security Act of 2007), and to return the money the citizens of the U.S.A.

A lot of seniors pay taxes on 85 percent of their Social Security benefits.

Your Rep. is the Honorable Kay Granger, 1701 River Run Road, Suite 407, Fort Worth, Texas 76107. Her phone number is (817) 338-0909.

Chuck Katlic,

Weatherford

Remember my door

Dear editor,

I have one or two things to say about Weatherford residents.

I bought me a new storm door at Lowe’s last week. I am handicapped and don’t drive. I couldn’t bring it home on the bus, for it weighted more than 25 pounds.

I have asked everyone I know and even put on Trade Days on the radio asking for help and got no call to help me.

This Monday, one week later, my door is still at Lowe’s.

Thank you, Weatherford, for no help. That shows you what kind of people live in Weatherford.

They are afraid to help anyone. I even offered to buy gas to help.

So, when I get able to drive, don’t break down on the road and ask for help. All I will say to you is, “Remember my door.”

Wayne Lyles,

Hudson Oaks

Protecting our integrity

Dear editor,

Thank you to Zan Prince, Parker County Republican Chair, for protecting the integrity of the Republican Party and the values the party stands for. Zan’s dedication and tireless effort in growing the Republican Party in Parker County is to be commended.

Zan has organized Republican Strike Forces to go door to door all across Texas and the nation. She has organized phone banks to call Ohio and California for the National Republican Party.

Any threat to the Republican Party is not taken lightly by myself or my family, Zan and the Republican Party can count on us to help our country and protect the Party in anyway possible.

Thank you Zan.

Don Markum,

Weatherford

To friends and neighbors

Dear editor,

What an exciting election season! Thank you for campaigning, for getting to know the candidates and issues and for voting in the Primary. The process works because you are a part of the process.

If you are a Republican in precincts 1 or 2, don’t forget to vote in the run off election Tuesday, April 8.

If you don’t know where to vote, check out our Web site at parkertxgop.org.

For those of you who not only voted, but attended your precinct convention and the county convention, double thanks! The political process is not over when the vote is cast on Election Day.

The Republican Party had a precinct convention the night of the Primary in each of the polling places. That is the first step in the convention process.

The next step was the County Convention that was held Saturday at the Ninth Grade Center in Weatherford. So far in the convention process, there have been many first time participants.

From the County Convention, we go to the State and National Conventions where the Republican Party will actually nominate our choice for president.

I appreciate all of you that voted, attended conventions, that got involved in the Republican Party this season. I invite you to get more involved! Please join us in electing the entire Republican slate in November.

For information, please give me a call at (817) 594-5029 or go to parkertxgop.org.

Zan Prince,

Parker County

Republican Chair,

Weatherford

Thanks to the faithful

Dear editor,

The GOP faithful should be commended for their support of the cause to allow the vote of the people to be heard.

Saturday, March 29, at the Parker County Republican Party County Convention, this delegate witnessed true believers of our democracy stand their ground as attacks from the floor were mounted to tear down the convention process.

The convention chairperson, Mrs. Zan Prince, and the convention leaders did an excellent job working through the issues presented during this convention.

All those who have taken on the responsibility of being delegates and alternates to the Texas State GOP Convention are to be commended.

Being a delegate or alternate to any convention is a privilege and honor, not a right of being present at a few meetings.

People such as the officers, volunteers and elected officials give of themselves in many ways, and if anyone questions their dedication, then maybe they should be more involved.

They are the base of the GOP, which care about the process and message being molded.

A simple thank you is not enough to those who support my wife, Zan Prince, Parker County Republican Chairperson.

Michael Prince,

Weatherford
