Control your dogs
Dear editor,
What is it going to take? A Mauling by dogs?
Five dogs are allowed to run free on Hideaway Lane. They chase cars, terrorize horses, kill chickens and terrorize children and their guardians when the children are waiting to get on the school bus. The dogs prevent people from getting their mail.
This has not only occurred once, but several times a week since the beginning of school. Of course, during the summer they are out on a daily basis, running free and having a good old time.
Our leash law has no teeth, but these dogs do. No one can do anything unless a deputy sees the dogs loose. The owners have been told repeatedly to keep the dogs fenced in, yet they choose to ignore these requests.
My 6-year-old granddaughter and I were literally chased back to my property one morning while we were standing in the dark waiting for the bus. The bus arrives at 4 p.m., the dogs chase the bus then come charging back at me while I stand waiting to get my granddaughter off the bus.
I was told that animal control is on call for bites and maulings. Is this what is going to have to happen to have anything done?
I carry a baseball bat with me every morning and every afternoon. I shouldn’t have to do this. Simple common courtesy is all that anyone can ask for, but apparently that will never occur on Hideaway Lane.
Asta Curtis,
Weatherford
It’s absolutely amazing
Dear editor,
The hurricanes are now afraid to come ashore for fear the Democrats in charge of this country will take them to the wood shed and spank them. Global warming is also getting cold feet.
I hope you don’t mind me telling you the fool who thinks he can control the climate is exactly that, a fool.
In my opinion, the same people who want to manage your health care are the same ones who think they can control the climate. The results will be exactly the same, both are beyond their comprehension.
Some think that senator or representative before their name gives them the power to control the weather and every aspect of your life.
Mr. Gore is scaring the children with his error-filled movie, Inconvenient Truth. Mr. Gore needs a carbon foot print in the seat of his pants.
Michael Moore is trashing capitalism, the very system that has allowed him to become a millionaire. That sounds like a two faced ____ to me. You can fill in the blank, my wife says my terminology is inappropriate.

Irresponsible spending
Dear editor,
At Tuesday’s City Council meeting, the public was informed the city needs to borrow yet another $650,000 to move the utilities along South Main from Bethel Road to I-20. This is the same road project approved in the 2006 bond election, yet the utility infrastructure was overlooked.
I suggested the city employee responsible for the traffic boondoggle and the expensive oversights be fired. I was later chastised, privately, by a council member who told me it wasn’t nice to point fingers and assign blame.
This is exactly why out city is in the condition it’s in. This employee makes over $100,000 a year, but apparently can’t be held responsible for his actions.
Our elected city officials seem to think they were elected to protect upper management. They do not hold these people accountable for their actions and do not require them to justify how our tax dollars are spent.
Irresponsible spending is why our city budget still has fat that could have been cut. No one wanted to make hard decisions. It was so much easier to have us pay a 2.5 cent tax increase.

What the Constitution says
Dear editor,
In response to the many letters submitted by Charles Katlic, our form of government is in fact as Mr. Behrens states a “Democratic Republic.”
Mr. Katlic, I feel that you have taken license to change the wording of Article IV, Section 4 of the Constitution to suit your agenda. The article does not state a “Republic” form of government, it states in fact, a “Republican form of government.” More precisely it is in fact worded thusly: “The Constitution of the United States of America, Article IV Section 4. The United States shall guarantee to every state in this union a “republican” form of government.
Republic: A government having a chief of state who is not a monarch and who in modern times is usually a president. A government in which supreme power resides in a body of citizens entitled to vote and is exercised by elected officers and representatives responsible to them and governing according to law.
Democracy: A government by the people especially rule of the majority. A government in which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised by them directly or indirectly through a system of representation usually involving periodically held free elections.
A Republican form of government can be administered in many forms. We the People in the United States chose to administer ours a “Democratic Republic.”
We elect our representatives to carry out our votes that we cast at the polls and do our bidding during their elected terms of office under a “Republican form of government administered as Democratic Republic.”
So you see that our government does in fact exist as both a Democracy and a Republican form that is called a “Democratic Republic.”

Power grab
Dear editor,
In my opinion, there is a tyrannical conspiracy that is working in our government today; a conspiracy to destroy the United States Constitution. Then “they” can bypass the constitution’s limitations on governmental power.
“They” want virtually unlimited money and power.”
Unfortunately for the people, this type of government quickly becomes one based on humanism, socialism, communism and tyranny.
Does this sound like the power-grab going on now in Washington?
There are a lot of very wealthy people spending large sums of money to bring down our constitutional government and pattern it after Venezuela and Cuba. We can then be a part of the “New World Order” under the United Nations.
Wake up, you God-fearing citizens and help stop this menace to our beautiful country and to our freedoms.

Willow Park
Redeem yourselves
Dear editor,
I hope everyone who voted for Obama was watching the Today Show on Sunday morning, Oct. 11.
Right there, before God and our country, Obama said he is going to try to get Congress to do away with the policy in the military, which prevents open homosexuality.
If Congress lets homosexual predators come out of the closet in the military, they will seduce the new recruits. Eighteen- and 19-year-old boys and girls don’t have a lot of experience at anything. And they certainly don’t have a lot of experience in fending off sexual predators.
I object to homosexuality because the Bible flatly condemns it (Leviticus 20:13, Romans 1:26-27). And I stopped voting the Democratic ticket when the party threw in with the homosexuals and abortionists.
If any voters who voted for Obama are having second thoughts about having thrown in with the homosexuals and abortionists, they can redeem themselves, as I did.
The Republican Party isn’t perfect, but they don’t promote homosexuality, and they don’t support partial birth abortion like Obama, which amounts to dissecting almost full-term babies in the womb.

Vote for volunteers
Dear editor,
First, I want to thank American State Bank for offering the “Giving Back to Weatherford” contest. No doubt that there are many worthy organizations.
However, there is one group working for our community on a strictly volunteer basis. That means no local, state or federal funding. Also, there are no salaried employees. Yes, 100 percent volunteer.
The only means of raising funds are based on two yearly fundraisers, plus the membership dues. The money raised is used to purchase needed supplies and equipment for our police dept.
We are the “Weatherford Citizen Police Academy Alumni Association.” We are dedicated to supporting and assisting our police department. These are the men and women who put their lives on the line to protect all of us. Can you imagine for a moment what it would be like without their protection?
So please go online daily through Oct. 30, and vote for our group. Weatherford Citizen Police Alumni Academy Association: www.asbonline.com/givingback, or go to the American State Bank on Santa Fe to vote in person. Thank you.
Violet Southall,
WCPAAA Member,

Too much power
Dear editor,
The citizens of Parker County should know that we are an “at will” county.
This means that any employee of this county can be terminated at any time for no reason.
It doesn’t matter if said employee has given 20 or more years of faithful service.
No one should have this power to do this to another person.
Marie Taylor,
Weatherford
